Plasmodium life-cycle and natural history of malaria
This animation, which illustrates, in six short sequences, the various stages of the life-cycle of the malaria parasite in the human host and in its mosquito vector, has been conceived by Professors Christophe Rogier et Marcel Hommel.
Christophe ROGIER is a French military physician and scientist, Professor Agrégé du Val de Grâce, and heads the Parasite Biology and Epidemiology research department of the Institute for Tropical Medicine of the French Army (Le Pharo) since 2004. His research interest covers several aspects of malariology: entomology, parasitology, clinical research, epidemiology, immunology, molecular epidemiology and Plasmodium population genetics. He teaches malariology, research methodology and epidemiology. He consults for many international organisations.
Christophe ROGIER wrote the text of the French version and read the commentary for the animation.
Marcel HOMMEL is an Emeritus Professor of University of Liverpool, and was, between 2006 and 2008, a medical director of the Institut Pasteur in Paris; he is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Malaria Journal. Marcel HOMMEL wrote the text of the English version and read the commentary for the animation.
